Olympic Field Day Events
1. Japan’s Chop Stick Relay
Equipment: 6 hula hoops, 3 rubber chickens, and 2 chopsticks per line.
Description: Students will line up in three teams with the first person from each team standing in the starting position. Students are given two “chopsticks” (golf tubes). On the signal to begin, the first student will pick up the rubber chicken from inside the hoop using only the chopsticks. (They may not use hands) They will have to bring the chicken to their stir fry pan (hula hoop) then return the sticks to the next student in line, who then goes to the pan and must bring the chicken back to the group and the process continues until everyone has had a turn.
2. Over, Under, Over, Under
Equipment: 2- Sponges; 2- Buckets; Water
Description: Provide the first student on each team with a wet sponge. When the relay starts, the first student in line passes the sponge over his or her head to the second student. Then that student passes the sponge under (between) his or her legs to the third student. The third student passes over, the fourth student under, and so on. When the sponge reaches the last student in line, that student runs to the front of the line, dips the sponge in the bucket of water, and starts the over-under-over-under process again. The game is over when the student who started the relay returns to the head of the line.
3. Archery Ball
Equipment: Archery targets, tennis balls
Description: Students will throw three tennis balls to see who gets the most points.
4. Long Jump
Equipment: poly spots
Description: who can jump the furthest while standing and jumping?
5. Wet and Wild
Equipment: 2- Sponges; 4- Buckets; Water
Description: Provide each team with a sponge and two buckets; one bucket full of water, the other empty. Place the full bucket at the head of the line and place the empty bucket at the end of the line. Give the sponge to the first student in line. That student dunks the sponge in the bucket of water and passes it over his or her head to the next student in line. The second student does the same thing, and so on. When the sponge reaches the last student, that student squeezes the water left in the sponge into the empty bucket and runs to the head of the line. Everyone else on the team takes a step back as the student who was at the end, and is now at the front, soaks the sponge and passes it back to the next student... As you can see, the benefit of really soaking the sponge is that more water might make its way into the empty bucket; the disadvantage is that the students in line are probably going to get wetter as the sponge is passed. Set a time limit (for example, 5 minutes). The team with the most water in the once empty bucket is the winning team.
6. Water Balloon Toss
Equipment: Water Balloons
Description: Two sets of partners at one time. Partners start facing each other, toss the balloon to their partner and they take one step backwards each time, this continues until the students drop the balloon.
7. Dive for Marbles
Equipment: Marbles, pool, and chairs
Description: In the pool place the marbles. On the word go four or five students enter the pool and begin picking the marbles up with their toes. As a student picks up a marble, they will then place it into their container. They will continue to pick up marbles until the time is up.
8. 50 Yard Dash
Equipment: Start and finish line
Description: Students compete against a partner running for that distance.
9. Egg Carry
Equipment: spoons and plastic eggs
Description: Divide students into two separate groups. Each group will try to carry their egg with the spoon around the cones and back without dropping the egg. The game is over when all students have had a chance to carry the egg.
10. Obstacle Course
Equipment:
Description: Create an obstacle course comprised of resources you have available. The course might involve running around cones; crawling through tunnels or large cardboard boxes; running through a series of hoops (or making one step in each hoop stretched out on the ground); or jumping or climbing over sawhorses or jump ropes.

When the music starts playing the bottles are handed clockwise around the circle. When the music stops the players holding the bottles get to give the players on each side of them a friendly squirt. Players being squirted con not move or prevent the squirting from taking place.
