Important Information
Change of Information
If there is any change of phone numbers or address please let us know. This is very important in order for us to contact you if there is an emergency.
School Arrival and Departure
Arrival: School starts promptly at 8:15a.m. It is very important that your child arrives to school on time. Car arrival entrance is in the front of the building. Students, who come early in the morning to school, should go straight to the cafeteria and wait until they are dismissed by a supervisor to go to the gym. If your child is eating breakfast, it is served between 7:45-8:05am. Please do not bring your child early if he/she is not eating breakfast. Students can be dropped off as early as 8:05am.
Departure: School is dismissed at 3:05pm. The teacher/teacher partner will accompany the students to the buses and car pick-up area. Please fill out your “home and back” sheets that are sent home every Friday. The information we get from those sheets is extremely helpful to us here at the school. If you pick up your child at school before 3:05, please stop by the office and sign your child out. Please notify me if your child’s method of transportation changes.
Show and Tell
Every week our student of the week will be selected to share anything that they want with the class. The “show and tell bag” will be sent home on the Thursday of each student’s show and tell week. The student is to bring the bag back on the following day for show and tell at the end of the day. Anything that is brought for show and tell must fit in the bag (if there are other things that your child would like to bring that do not fit in the bag, please contact me ahead of time for approval).
Snacks
Our class will generate a snack fund from which monthly snacks will be purchased. Our homeroom parent will be in charge of collecting the money and purchasing the snacks that our class needs. In order for this to succeed, we do need the help of each family. With a small donation of $5-$10 dollars from each family, we should have plenty of money in our fund for almost the entire year. Once a homeroom parent is assigned to our class he or she will get in contact with you with further information about this.
School to home connection
Every Friday your child will receive a folder containing pertinent information for various school activities. Contents should be removed and read upon receiving the folder. The folder will also include students work for that week. Please return the folder every Monday. A classroom newsletter will also be available starting in September. You may receive a paper copy or print one off my homepage.
Lunch Money
If your child brings lunch money to school, please place it in an envelope with your child’s name on it. Any time money is sent please place it in an envelope or plastic bag with your child’s name on it.
Parent Participation
Parent participation is a very important part of a successful and productive classroom and school. We appreciate all that you do for us the teachers, our wonderful school, and most important, our children! Your participation and involvement will always be appreciated at Zarrow International School. Muchas Gracias!
Curriculum
Language Arts: In kindergarten we use a combination of two Spanish language enrichment programs. The first is called “Estrellita”. It is a phonetically based program that concentrates on letter/sound recognition, syllable understanding, and basic word building. As a result of “Estrellita’s” strong emphasis on phonics, we decided to combine it with a program that takes more of a whole language approach to learning Spanish. “Animated Alphabet” is a reading program that introduces the students to each letter of the alphabet through interesting characters, fun stories, and exciting songs. Included with each letter sound, story and song are fun movements to keep those energetic bodies moving and make learning the letters fun! The combination of these two programs should make for an exciting and successful year!
Math: This year we are finally able to use the same math curriculum that the entire district is using. “Growing with Math” is an exciting math program that includes hands on activities, music, group work, and student work books that are full of fun and meaningful assignments. We are really excited to finally be able to start this program and look forward to the wonderful benefits it has to offer!
Tribes: “Tribes” is a community building curriculum that all Tulsa Public Schools use. It has three main areas of focus: Community Guidelines; Life skills; and Multiple Intelligences. Through interactive activities, students learn the importance of successfully functioning in a classroom and how it is directly related to their success in the “real world”. “Tribes” helps prevent behavior problems in the classroom before they get started. For more information on “Tribes” and all the wonderful things it offers your student, log on to the TPS home page (www.tulsaschools.org), go to Quick Links and scroll down to Teacher Resources, then click on the Teacher Resources link, and access any of the items in the “Visuals of the Tulsa Model” box. There you will see examples of the Community Guidelines, the Life skills, and all of the multiple intelligences.
