How I Get My Grades

15%                                   Homework

35%                                   Participation

50%                                   Tests/projects

Missing homework will be done during recess.

Homework is meant to either stimulate thinking on a particular theme prior to learning OR review a concept already learned in class. If your child has extreme difficulty, I am available before school at 7:30 for extra help. Please keep me abreast of your child’s attitude towards homework, as I will try to give you a heads-up if I feel a particular homework may be hard for your child. I recommend a planner, so they can write down their assignments as sometimes they are modified from my original plans.

Participation not only includes completing class work as requested, but how your child works in a cooperative group setting. Do they share ideas? Do they respect other’s ideas? Do they try to include the others in the group?

Do they make sure that all group members understand the objectives? This doe take time to develop in children.  I also will subtract 5 points for not attempting to do their class work in Spanish. One can not retain a language that is not used.

Tests/projects are a major part of the grade. The only homework I may give before a test is to study for it. Projects will mostly be done on school time and include experiments. I also give extra credit for some assignments.

How you can help your child:

If you have cable, watch Plaza Sesamo together.

Rent or change the language selection on a known movie.

There are many computer learning games in español.

Together, we can make this a successful year for your child!
