Central High School Academy of Fine Arts
The Central High School Fine Arts Magnet offers students a high intensity, comprehensive program that infuses the fine arts with a rigorous academic curriculum.
Students who exhibit talent and commitment in dance, drama, painting, graphic design, piano performance, jazz ensemble and vocal performance will find this magnet an excellent choice.

Central’s magnet program is offered to students with proven academic achievement and demonstrated ability and interest in the arts. In order to help qualified students reach their full artistic and academic potential, Central offers a comprehensive complement of courses, as well as performance and competitive opportunities at the local, state and national levels.
The overriding theme of all magnet programs is diversity, which is celebrated throughout Central’s magnet strands. Students experience a plethora of cultures through elective studies in dance, music and visual art.
Visual Arts Strand
The Visual Arts Strand includes studio electives in several painting mediums and calligraphic forms, glasswork, sculpture, pottery, ironworks and photography. Students complete required courses in drawing, the history of visual art, studio practice, studio foundations and portfolio preparation.

10th Grade: Studio Art; Color & Design; Form & Design; Foreign Language I
11th grade: Studio Art: AP; Advanced Color & Design; Advanced Form & Design; Foreign Language II.

Arts Production and Management Strand
Arts managers are required to be versatile, with a global perspective on aesthetics and organization. Central’s Arts Production and Management strand offers a comprehensive curriculum that affords students a complement of classes in arts issues and analysis.
Students complete a minimum of one course in dance, theater, vocal or instrumental music and visual arts, with advanced work in at least one area.
9th Grade: Leadership – Intro to Fine Arts; Arts Alive
10th Grade: Arts Production Management I; Foreign Language I
11th grade: Arts Production Management II; Foreign Language II
12th grade: Post-Secondary Elective Internship; Senior Summer Internship
Theater and Dance Interpretation Strand
The Theater & Dance Interpretation strand familiarizes students with performance or technical work in theatre or classical training in dance. The curriculum will include an emphasis on the roles these disciplines have played in different cultures at different times.
Students will be exposed to a variety of acting approaches, technical design work, and dance forms, and will be selected based on aptitude, motivation and work ethic.

Vocal / Instrumental Music Strand
The Vocal/Instrumental Music strand is designed for the young musician who demonstrates talent and interest in pursuing a related career. Students are selected for the program on the basis of talent and motivation.
Individualized instruction includes weekly vocal/dramatic coaching supplemented by faculty from higher education partners and distinguished visiting artists. Strand features include:
