Nathan Hale High School’s diverse student community provides an exciting learning environment for young people who seek strong athletics, inclusive student organizations and academic excellence.

Hale’s Restaurant, Lodging and Health Management Magnet provides focused, intensive, career-oriented training for students interested in pursuing futures in the world of hospitality.

The strands in Hale’s magnet program were developed by world and national industry experts from the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation and the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute.

The food services curriculum, developed by the NRAEF’s ProStart program, gives successful students a Certificate of Achievement that opens the door to scholarships and employment with a number of TPS partners.

Distance learning allows students to interact with industry professionals on a global scale.

Health, Dietetics and Human Performance Strand

Hale’s Health, Dietetics and Human Performance strand introduces students to the science of food, nutrition and health. Course offerings include activities that stimulate and motivate students who are interested in the field of health and dietetics. Instructional strategies include distance learning opportunities which allow for interaction with health and nutrition experts worldwide.

9th Grade: Leadership – Intro to Health & Human Performance; Health Education

10th Grade: Food, Science; Personal Nutrition; Health Technology I; Foreign Language I

11th Grade: Psychology; Social Psychology, or AP Psychology; Health Technology II; Foreign Language II

12th Grade: Post-Secondary Elective; Senior Summer Internship

Lodging and Restaurant Management Strand

The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute developed Hale’s Lodging Management Program for students who are interested in leadership roles in the hospitality industry.

The LMP provides training for hospitality positions in the rooms and food and beverage divisions of a lodging operation, including front desk, reservations, housekeeping, bell services, restaurant service, banquet setup and service, and more. Students learn the management principles that will enable them to achieve success in post-secondary programs and the working world.

Through partnerships with professional organizations, industry experts offer real-world experience in customer relations, leadership and management. Students learn team-building, marketing and sales.

Completing this program will open many doors of opportunity and set the students on an exciting career path. The program includes a internationally recognized certification, created especially for the LMP curriculum.

Food Preparation and Presentation Strand

Careers in the food service industry are expected to increase by nearly 2 million over the next decade, including 47,000 management positions.

Hale’s Food Preparation and Presentation Strand provides on-the-job training and a comprehensive curriculum that gets students ready for all aspects of operating and managing a food service establishment.
