Junior and senior physics students from Booker T. Washington High School visited the Titan Sports and Performance Center on Thursday for Kickin' for Kinematics: The Physics of Futbol -- a program made possible by a partnership between Tulsa Public Schools and FC Tulsa.
The students used their cell phones to record video of FC Tulsa players practicing. The students then take those recordings back to the classroom to analyze frame-by-frame. The goal is to work with the data they gather -- velocity, acceleration, displacement, and more -- and combine it with data from sensors the players wear to find ways to improve performance.
Booker T. and Memorial are the first schools to go on this data-gathering field trip. The students will study the information for the rest of the semester and eventually present their findings to the team. Tulsa Public Schools and FC Tulsa hope to expand the program to other schools in the future.
