a teacher is surprised with a STEM award

Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance recently recognized Central Middle School teacher Lisa Wada as one of four Siegfried Excellence in STEM Education Award Finalists for 2024. Honorees are exceptional Oklahoma educators that are recognized for their outstanding contributions to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. The Siegfried Excellence in STEM Education Awards celebrate the most dedicated and inspirational teachers who exemplify integrated, STEM-infused teaching strategies and classroom innovation.

Lisa is a dedicated 6th and 7th grade science teacher who has devoted nine years to cultivating STEM curiosity and champions hands-on learning and inclusivity, particularly for students with disabilities. Lisa actively integrates real-world STEM applications, such as creating bird-friendly habitats, into her curriculum. This approach aligns with the key phases of middle school STEM education, where students build on their foundational knowledge with more complex problem-solving and inquiry-based learning.

The finalists will be honored at Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance’s Flight Night gala on September 12, where the winner will be named. Each finalist received a $5,000 award, which includes a $4,000 grant for classroom enhancements or professional development and a $1,000 personal award. The winner will also receive an additional $5,000 award.
