Superintendent Johnson speaks to JROTC students

The 30th annual Tulsa Public Schools JROTC Superintendent's Review was held at East Central High School in April.

During the ceremony, Superintendent Ebony Johnson inspected and spoke to JROTC battalions from nine high schools. Edison student Zoe Farmer served as the Commander of Troops for the event, escorting Dr. Johnson through the inspections. Board of Education members Susan Lamkin, Calvin Moniz, and Sarah Smith accompanied them.

After inspection, Dr. Johnson presented the Superintendent's Award for Outstanding Leadership, Citizenship, and Scholarship to one cadet from each school. Those recipients were:

  • Xavier Brown from Webster High School
  • Ja'Mia Barnum from Central High School
  • Sunshine Lor from East Central High School
  • Zoe Farmer from Edison Preparatory
  • Polett Conaway from Rogers College High School
  • Adrienne Thealle from Memorial High School
  • Hannaniah Simirun from Hale High School
  • Yocelyn Vargas from Booker T. Washington High School
  • Syncere Culton from McLain High School

JROTC was established in Tulsa Public Schools in 1994. Today, over 1,100 students from the nine high schools participate in the program, developing leadership skills through studies in citizenship, communication, character education, and service to community and school.
