Emerson Elementary receives $100,000 grant to fund new STEAM lab

Tulsa Public Schools today announced the ONE Gas Foundation will present a grant of $100,000 to Emerson Elementary for construction of a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) lab.

“ONE Gas is honored to partner with Tulsa Public Schools to support STEAM education in the community,” said Julie White, vice president of Communications and Inclusion and Diversity at ONE Gas. “As part of our core values, we seek to create opportunities that strengthen the communities we serve. The skills students will build in this new lab will prepare them to succeed in an evolving and fast-paced environment and are a direct investment in our future workforce.”

The STEAM lab will offer students a state-of-the-art experiential learning environment that complements the school’s Montessori education program. Students can explore STEAM concepts through project-based learning and applied technology in a fully integrated space designed for collaboration. Construction is expected to be complete by late fall.

“We are grateful for strong partnerships with the business community and for the investment ONE Gas is making in our public schools,” said Deborah Gist, superintendent of Tulsa Public Schools. “Expanding access to STEAM programs plays a vital role in developing our students’ college and career readiness.”

Emerson Elementary is the only public school in Oklahoma to offer a Montessori program. Montessori programs foster independent learning by encouraging students to explore, discover and select their own work. Students learn and understand the values of compassion, empathy, service, integrity, self-reliance and tolerance. Emerson’s Montessori program is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion across all lines of difference, which also aligns with ONE Gas’ core values.

“The ONE Gas Foundation is excited to support the expansion of STEAM opportunities at Emerson Elementary, a critical approach that encourages curiosity and collaboration and empowers students to seek creative solutions to real-world problems,” said Heather Earl, ONE Gas philanthropic manager.

The ONE Gas Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, provides charitable support in communities served by ONE Gas, Inc. and its natural gas distribution companies in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. Giving priorities align with the ONE Gas core values of safety, ethics, inclusion and diversity, service and value.
