Every summer, the Tulsa Public Schools facilities team gathers for their year-end celebration. Over 400 team members gathered at Carver Middle School for breakfast and an awards and recognition ceremony. 

Operating a school district of over 32,000 students requires a huge team working behind the scenes to keep our schools in tip-top shape. The facilities team includes mechanics, plumbers, electricians, sanitation workers, painters, landscapers, and more. 

Some of the awards that were given out were “Top Cut” (most acres maintained) by the grounds crew, “Top Work Order Responders” by the maintenance crew, and “Exceeding Expectations” by the plant operations/custodial crew.

The hard and often unseen work of the facilities team amounts to some astounding stats:

• The maintenance crew changed over 38,000 HVAC filters and responded to over 22,000 work orders last school year.
• The custodial staff cleans 8.4 million square feet every day (2600+ classrooms!). 
• The grounds crew cuts over 600 acres of grass every two weeks on average.
