At Tulsa Public Schools, our mission is to inspire and prepare every student to love learning, achieve goals, and positively contribute to our world.  As I formally begin to serve as interim Superintendent, my role is not only ensuring students achieve their full potential but also honoring your trust in district administration to always do what is right. I received new information regarding the ongoing investigation into alleged financial crimes by a former TPS employee and my first course of action is to share this update with the public. 

Since June of 2022, the district has cooperated fully with law enforcement investigations into serious financial mishandling by a former employee and others. We are aware of federal criminal charges filed on September 18 against the former TPS employee. The final comprehensive financial impact from this criminal activity is still being determined.

As a parent, former school principal and native Tulsan who cares deeply about our education system, I know firsthand how unsettling this news can be. My recent appointment to the highest position in the district has provided me with deeper knowledge and understanding of the full breadth of this incident, and while I am learning more details, I am committed to advancing an action plan that includes process improvement and accountability to safeguard our district from future criminal activity.  I am completely committed to leading our students, families, faculty, and supporters through these challenging times with transparency. 

Together, we will be responsive to our students and families and maintain a relentless focus on academic outcomes while ensuring our school system remains healthy, strong, and resilient.

En las Escuelas Públicas de Tulsa, nuestra misión es inspirar y preparar a cada estudiante para que ame aprender, alcance metas y contribuya positivamente a nuestro mundo. A medida que comienzo formalmente a servir como Superintendente interina, mi función no es solo garantizar que los estudiantes alcancen su máximo potencial sino también honrar su confianza en la administración del distrito para hacer siempre lo correcto. Recibí nueva información sobre la investigación en curso sobre presuntos delitos financieros por parte de un ex empleado de TPS y mi primer curso de acción es compartir esta actualización con el público.

Desde junio de 2022, el distrito ha cooperado plenamente con las investigaciones policiales sobre un mal manejo financiero por parte de un exempleado y otras personas. Estamos al tanto de los cargos penales federales presentados el 18 de septiembre contra el ex empleado de TPS. Aún se está determinando el impacto financiero integral final de esta actividad criminal.

Como padre, ex director de escuela y nativa de Tulsa que se preocupa profundamente por nuestro sistema educativo, sé de primera mano lo inquietante que puede ser esta noticia. Mi reciente nombramiento para el puesto más alto en el distrito me ha brindado un conocimiento y una comprensión más profundos de todo el alcance de este      incidente, mientras aprendo más detalles, me comprometo a promover un plan de acción que incluya la mejora de procesos y la responsabilidad para salvaguardar nuestro distrito de futuras actividades criminales. Estoy completamente comprometida a guiar a nuestros estudiantes, familias, profesores y simpatizantes a través de estos tiempos difíciles con transparencia.

Juntos, responderemos a nuestros estudiantes y familias y mantendremos un enfoque implacable en los resultados académicos mientras garantizamos que nuestro sistema escolar se mantenga saludable, fuerte y resiliente.
