Eugene Field Elementary held a carnival on Thursday to introduce families to the Montessori program that will launch at the school in the fall. Students played games and tried out specialized classroom materials while teachers talked to their families about the Montessori method.
"We really want Montessori to feel accessible to all of our families. What better way to introduce Montessori than through a carnival? Just really bringing community and fun and excitement about this model coming to Eugene Field," said Montessori Program Specialist Diane Beckham. "I think the families here are going to just love it once they get to know it."
Eugene Field will be the third Tulsa Public Schools elementary to have a Montessori program, joining Emerson and Grissom elementary schools. These are the only three public Montessori schools in Oklahoma.
Students in Montessori classrooms learn in multi-age groupings, and Eugene Field will offer Montessori for students in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten in the 2022-2023 school year. The program will expand by one grade each year through the 2027-2028 school year.
