Student chefs take a group photo

Nine Tulsa Public Schools elementary students competed in Sodexo's Future Chefs Culinary Competition!

Fifty students in 3rd through 5th grade submitted recipes in January. A panel of managers and dietitians on the child nutrition team selected the students that would compete in the district finals at Memorial High School. These nine students were selected based on the complexity, variety, creativity, and presentation of their recipe.

The nine finalists are:

Marraie Asay Owen Elementary 5th Fudge Brownies
Lyllie Camp Marshall Elementary 3rd Lyllie's Baked Spaghetti
Dexter Duvall Eisenhower International 4th Kale Sausage Soup
Keydren Mingo McClure Elementary 4th Shrimp Alfredo with Chicken

The finalists prepared their recipes at Memorial with assistance of a sous-chef from the child nutrition team.

Three judges, including Board of Education member Susan Lamkin, interviewed the student chefs and tasted their dishes before determining a winner. After scores were tallied, Tulsa Public Schools Executive Chef Ron Harrison announced the winner: Keydren Mingo with his delicious shrimp alfredo and chicken!
