On Wednesday, Tulsa Public Schools announced the winners of the 39th Annual District Art Show via Facebook live. The shows features art from students in 5th-12th grade from several schools across the district.
"It's amazing what they've come up with," said Sara Phoenix, Tulsa Public Schools Fine Arts Content Manager. "They brought their A-game."
The categories for high school include jewelry/metal design, pottery/vessel, sculpture, mixed media, photo/digital design, printmaking, drawing, painting, and senior portfolios. The elementary and middle school categories are 2D and 3D.
A panel of local artists selected the winners of this year's show. Elementary entries and middle school honorable mentions all received gift bags filled with art supplies. High school winners all received cash prizes thanks to the generosity of the Levit Family. Best in Show went to Sophia Zoellner at Booker T. Washington High School who received $500. Winter White from Edison Preparatory won for Best Portfolio earning her $500 as well. The three senior portfolio honorable mentions each took home $250 dollars, and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners received $75, $50, and $25, respectively.
The District Art Show is open to the public at Wilson Teaching and Learning (2710 E 11th St.) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Friday, May 21. Masks are required and health and safety procedures are in place. Click here to view photos from the show, and watch our video for more art and information.
