Several schools will celebrate the importance of after learning for Lights On Afterschool on Thursday, October 26. All Tulsa Public Schools Before and After Learning sites are inviting families to join their students for an evening of refreshments, crafts, and other activities from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.
These events will be among thousands taking place across the country this month as part of Lights On Afterschool, the nationwide rally for afterschool programs organized each year by the Afterschool Alliance. This year, Lights On Afterschool is highlighting the vital work that afterschool programs do to support students and families.
The Tulsa Public Schools Before and After Learning program serves 464 students at 12 sites, providing homework assistance, mentoring, tutoring, and classes and clubs in sports, recreation, mathematics, and dozens of other subjects. Tulsa Public Schools has recently partnered with Champions, a provider of afterschool programs that are opening at eight additional sites this month. After learning programs keep kids safe, inspire them to learn, and give working parents peace of mind that their child is supervised after the school day ends.
