Akin Olaniyan has been selected as the 2023-2024 Eugene Field Elementary Support Professional of the Year!

Akin has worked for Team Tulsa for about 18 years. He started with Tulsa Public Schools as a cook at Kendall-Whittier Elementary and eventually moved up to assistant cafeteria manager. Later on, he started working at Carnegie Elementary as a paraprofessional before transferring to Eugene Field in 2020. He currently serves as a teacher assistant and paraprofessional.

"Education chose me. I enjoy helping children with learning challenges and disabilities like myself. I struggle with dyslexia. It's extremely rewarding to help children have a better experience learning than I did," said Akin. "I learned that kindness can make a great difference in the way kids behave and learn. I feel like I can have a positive impact on the next generation."

In addition to his work in the classroom, Akin helps students achieve their goals in track, singing, painting, and other endeavors.

Outside of work, he helps to feed unhoused people through his church.

"I love cooking and I love using my gift to help others."
