In honor of Native American History Month, students at Felicitas Mendez International got to experience making traditional fry bread today with Librarian Jessica Samaroo, her grandmother Ollie Starr, mother DeeAnn McHenry, and great aunt Betsy Swimmer, all of which are Cherokee Nation citizens.
Students were able to sample fry bread, listen to a book by a Native author, and look at realia that belongs to the family. Teachers were also able to enjoy an Indian taco for lunch. This is the fourth year they have had this celebration, and students look forward to it each year. Mrs. Samaroo said they start asking about it in August!
