Students at Lindbergh Elementary have an incredible opportunity to develop their soccer skills with the help of their P.E. teacher, Keely Flynn, and University of Tulsa soccer players!
Keely started the soccer club a year ago.
"It helps their their health, their mental health, and it gets them in the classroom," she said. "We have kids now that are looking forward to coming to school because they want to stay and play in soccer club so I get really excited about that."
Keely stays after school to let the students play as many days as they they want to participate.
She invited the TU players out to mentor and coach the students last year. The players had such a great time coaching and connecting with students that they kept coming back twice a week to volunteer their time.
"It's cool to see a lot of these kids not only improving as soccer players but also I like to see them improving as people," said Ian McIntosh, a junior at TU.
"Hopefully just being a good role model so this is something that they want to do. They could see us and see us having fun in college playing soccer and hopefully it inspires some of them to make that decision to further their education."
The college students have even come out on the weekend to cheer on the Lindbergh kids during their league games.
"It's pretty special," said Keely.
