Senior Jasmine Aburto was surprised this morning with a full ride scholarship to her dream school: the University of Tulsa! Superintendent Deborah Gist and University of Tulsa President Brad Carson presented Jasmine with the exciting news along with her acceptance letter.
McLain’s auditorium was packed with friends, family, and teachers who all supported her through her academic journey. When asked about how she felt being surrounded by her classmates for the announcement, Jasmine said, “It was very emotional because they are the people I’m with every single day. They see how much I work and how much I struggle and they’ve helped me through those things.”
Superintendent Gist shared her excitement for the planned surprise: “This is our students, our scholars, and they deserve so much. We as a community need to make sure we’re giving them those opportunities and to know that we have a university right here in our town that wants to reach out and be that great partner and make life changing opportunities come about for our students - it’s truly remarkable.”
Jasmine will receive free tuition, room and board, and textbooks when she attends The University of Tulsa in the fall. She plans to study cybersecurity.
