TULSA, Oklahoma – New for the 2024 summer, Tulsa Public Schools announces the opening of the innovative Bridge to Graduation program. Bridge to Graduation, created by TPS and funded by the Oklahoma State Department of Education, is a summer program for Tulsa students who need additional opportunities and support to graduate from high school. Students enrolled in credit recovery will work with TPS staff to recover missing credits through Edgenuity, an online, state-approved platform. These teacher advisors will provide assistance to students either face-to-face or via Zoom to help them master content, finish exactly the credits and graduation requirements they need, and get students over the threshold to earning their high school diplomas.
The US Career Institute has developed a guide that highlights the increase in average salary for employees with a high school diploma compared to those without one. In Oklahoma, high school graduates earn approximately $6,016 more per year than non-graduates.
Running from July 9 through September 30, 2024, Bridge to Graduation is tailored and customized to each student’s individual needs. Bridge to Graduation is open to all current and former Tulsa Public Schools students from the graduation years of 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027 – from students who were initially high school seniors two years ago (in 2021-22) to current rising 10th graders who are behind on credits. After its first week open to students, the program has already received over 100 applications or referrals of interested individuals. Many students struggle to complete all necessary graduation requirements; others need additional opportunities, support to recover credits, or flexible learning approaches that suit their complicated lives and schedules.
Bridge to Graduation offers this high level of individualization by utilizing Edgenuity, an online credit recovery and credit accrual system that allows students to work at their own pace. Office hours run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at North Star Academy (525 E. 45th N); virtual appointments are also available from M- Th from 3:00 to 9:00 pm, Fridays from 3:00 to 7:00 pm or via Zoom at student’s request.
To apply, students should click here to access the application. Tulsa Public Schools is also conducting targeted outreach to current and former students about the Bridge to Graduation opportunity.
