students pay attention during a lecture
Rogers College Middle School seventh and eighth graders recently attended the Keeping It Real conference—a hands-on event hosted by OSU YES (Youth Empowering Success) that helps middle schoolers build essential life skills for high school and beyond. The conference brought students together for an interactive day of learning through engaging workshops, activities, and inspiring speakers. Students rotated through five dynamic sessions:

  • Career Awareness
  • Show Me the Money
  • GRIT
  • Self-Advocacy
  • Entrepreneurship

From exploring future careers to learning about financial literacy and goal setting, students gained practical tools they can use right away. The hands-on format meant students were active participants—not just listeners—making the experience memorable and meaningful. By focusing on communication, decision-making, and personal responsibility, Keeping It Real showed seventh and eighth graders how they can proactively prepare for opportunities throughout life.
