Exceptional Student Support
Tulsa Public Schools Exceptional Student Support Team is committed to beliefs and practices that value and serve all of our exceptional students with individualized supports and resources to create a pathway for student success in college, career, and life. We believe all students should experience high expectations, rigorous instruction, inclusive environments, with opportunities to engage in high quality educational opportunities that are equitable for all in every class, every day.
We know that navigating school systems and policies can be a challenge, especially when it pertains to students with special needs. That’s why we work cooperatively with families, students, community, and outside professionals in order to promote each student's success and well-being and ensure the highest quality of service.
Federal law ensures that all students ages 3-21 are eligible for a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). This includes special education and/or related services in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). Depending on each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), the LRE may include related services, transition services, supplementary aids and services, and/or assistive technology devices and services.
To that end, the Tulsa Public Schools Office of Exceptional Student Support Services provides a continuum of services for individualized plans from the least restrictive to most restrictive based on the team determination. We serve all 13 federally-recognized IDEA categories.
