Tulsa Public Schools Virtual Academy

The Tulsa Virtual Academy is a full-time virtual school offering that will be available for students in the 2020-2021 school year. Students in the virtual academy will continue to be enrolled in their current schools, but will complete their studies virtually. If you choose this option, you will have the opportunity to return to in-person learning at semester if your preference changes. Tulsa Virtual Academy will provide a high-quality learning experience that supports each child’s social emotional needs.

With Tulsa Virtual Academy, students will complete a combination of online lessons/activities and offline assignments, with remote supports from certified teachers. Virtual Academy students will have the flexibility to complete weekly assignments on a schedule that works best for the student and family. In addition, every student attending the Virtual Academy will stay connected with their current school through school-wide communications and regular touchpoints with school staff.

Tulsa Virtual Academy students will have access to the same courses and programming that they would at their current school. For example, if your child attends one of our dual language schools, he or she would continue to have dual language instruction in virtual school. If your child’s school offers AP courses, he or she will continue to have access to virtual AP classes. All activities like music, fine arts, and physical education will take place virtually.

Example daily schedules

The sample days below show an example of “a day in the life” of a Virtual Academy student; however, Tulsa’s Virtual Academy is programmed to be flexible to meet the needs of parents and families. We estimate that students in the Tulsa Virtual Academy will spend 2-4 hours a day on the computer and another 2-4 hours of work or activity time. Teachers will host a mix of virtual touch-points including: whole group, small group, 1:1 check-ins, and office hours for students. Students may participate in whole group lessons live or access recorded sessions through Canvas. Teachers will have scheduled times during the day to assist students as well.
