Cell Phone Policy
A new state law is now in effect that prohibits the use of cell phones by any student during the school day. For elementary and middle school students, this is a continuation of the procedures Tulsa Public Schools enforced last year that require phones and other personal electronic devices to be put away for the entire school day. This will mean new policies beginning on the first day of school for high school students where devices may not be used at all during the school day.If you want to learn more about the law, you can access it here. If you have questions or concerns about the new law, please reach out to the principal at your student’s school, including for exceptions for medical or other reasons.
Attendance
Good attendance is vital to the academic success of every student. Please make sure your student arrives at school on time every day. Click here for more information on attendance.
There are three reasons to keep sick children at home:
- When your child has a contagious or communicable disease.
- When your child is exhibiting any of the signs or symptoms listed below or has an illness for which temporary exclusion is recommended for the health and safety of your child as well as other children.
- When your child does not feel well enough to comfortably participate in their normal school activities.

Enrollment
If you are new to the district or returning from another district, make sure to complete your child’s enrollment before the school year begins. Visit www.tulsaschools.org/enroll or come to the Enrollment Center at 2819 S. New Haven Ave between 8am and 4pm.

Where to Get Immunizations
The Tulsa Health Department offers comprehensive immunization clinical services to protect individuals and the community from vaccine-preventable diseases. Clinics are staffed by licensed healthcare professionals who provide education, administer vaccines and maintain immunization records. Walk-in services are available on certain days, but an appointment is recommended. Click here to find THD clinic locations and schedule an appointment.
The Caring Van will be at sites around Tulsa providing free immunizations to students. Check the calendar for dates.
Exemption
Oklahoma law requires evidence of adequate immunizations for each child attending school. Children with specific medical contraindications to any immunizations may be allowed to attend if the medical reason is signed by a licensed physician and submitted to the school. Parents may apply for an exemption based on religious or personal beliefs. Pre-K Information
The first full day of school for pre-K students is Friday, August 22.
Pre-K students will participate in a short assessment on either August 20 or 21. A parent/guardian must attend this assessment with their student.
Your school will contact you with information about pre-K opportunities to meet your child’s teachers and to schedule your assessment appointment.

- Polo shirts can be long sleeve or short sleeve
- No t-shirts, or sleeveless shirts. All shirts must have collars
- No writing, logos, stripes, or patterns
- Any solid color
PANTS & SHORTS
- No cargo pants/shorts
- No jeans
- Pants should fit properly in all areas.
- Shorts must extend below the fingertips when the child is standing with hands to their sides
- Belts must be worn with all pants/shorts
- Navy, khaki, tan, or black
DRESSES, SKIRTS & JUMPERS
- Length must extend below the fingertips when the child is standing with hands to their sides.

- All shoes need to be athletic style shoes
- No boots, sandals, flip flops, ballet shoes, shoes with a heel, dress shoes, or ballet flats

- Any light jacket may be worn in the classroom.
- Heavy coats need to stay in lockers
- Teachers may have students put their jacket in their locker if it becomes a distraction such as hoods on heads

TIGHTS & LEGGINGS
- Tights/leggings should be worn under a skirt or dress
- They are not to be worn as pants alone
- Any color or pattern
ACCESSORIES
Costume headbands are not allowed. All jewelry and hair accessories should be modest and not distract from learning. The teacher may choose to have them remove any pieces that become a distraction. Hats or jacket hoods are not to be worn inside the building.
FREE DRESS DAY
On free dress days, students may wear any school appropriate clothes they choose.
However, shoes still need to be athletic style. Make sure all shorts, skirts and shorts are appropriate lengths. No profanity, costumes, or pajamas. Shoulder straps must be a minimum of the width of two fingers of the person wearing the garment.
Adjustments to the dress code may be made for special events.
